AA lost my Cathay award flight!
I booked 2 Cathay flights earlier this year (1 under my account, 1 under my wife's) for SEA > SFO > HKG in F with our AA miles. The flight is on feb next year, I called today to see if I can confirm and secure 2 seats in front but during the call when they were looking up my rsvp they hung up (bad sign).
So I called back and they found my rsvp but said I am not on the plane (the SFO > HKG section)! Strangely my wife is still booked and I at least got her seat confirmed. They said Cathay made a schedule change and for some reason my rsvp wasn't automatically confirmed. Has that ever happened to anyone else before?
I checked the flight and see that nothing has changed from the original (same time, plane, etc). Somewhat worrying that they didn't seem to make a big deal out of it, I emphasis that I have booked hotels and time off and everything and we need this to work. They told me they will put it in again and to call back in 2 days to check the status. I wasn't impressed at all with the customer service, seemed to be "all they can do".
So a few things...
1. They were able to provide me the booking reference number for cathay so I can look up on that site to confirm, is that normal?
2. I checked BA.com to see if there are other award seats available in F still but couldn't find any. From what I hear, AA pays Cathay for the seat so if there isn't an award seat, that shouldn't mean there are no seats correct?
3. I checked for paid seats and am able to find at least 1 from multiple sources, does this mean I am ok then? I know it probably wouldn't sell out but I am highly concerned about not getting on this flight and potentially having another 2x F flight from SEA to HKG this late in the game on the same exact date.
4. Should I be calling Cathay as well?
