I also third Japan (in spite of the fact that I like China more) because it's pretty easy to get around there, and very clean.

Maybe look into flying into TYO and out of FUK with a JRail pass to connect the dots. OZ is bearable in Y, and serves both of these airports (plus about 5 in between).
