Personally, I'd go for CE if the price was right. Lounge access, luggage allowance and slightly wider seats do make a difference to my travel. Other people's MMV.
your main question seems to be is it worth spending the avios. I suppose the answer to that is, how quickly can you earn those avios back e.g. from other flights, Tesco spend, Amex spend etc.
