Are you saying its elaborate setup by chase to get accounts cancelled???
Purchasing GC is not a problem for legitimate purpose, but the problem happens if someone buys more GC than they are spending for their normal purchases. It is really suspicious.
Think like a leander! Will you loan to someone if they are trying to play cash advance game? esp if their activities do not look like a normal business.
Personally last year, I was spending massive money on my Amex charge card for legitimate purchases, and Amex called me only when my balance was $35k because they said that they had wrong number $25k updated for my income. They only called me to confirm the income, and said that I can charge up to $40k, and only asked if I could make any payment. Amex had no problem with those charges. After few month later, I did a single $3000 cash advance game, and they called me few days later and got an FR. Then I had to submit the bank statement, and FR was resolved but got hard limit on my charge card. Already burnt, learnt lesson with such a small warning rather than getting account closed.
I have really short credit history, as came to United States last year in April. You could see, even having short credit history, Amex did not bug me for any bank statement, etc when I charged over $35k but they got problem when I did $3k cash advance game. I understood their point of risk, and learnt lesson. Play fair! Use bank credit carefully!
