You're entitled to your opinion. The key issue is the one you mentioned, which is that UA took the cheap option and "forgot" to refurbish these aircraft. For the duration of these flights, the 757 is a vastly better experience overall - and this will further improve with the addition of WiFi.

I've flown many hundreds of thousands of miles over the Atlantic in these seats and never found the 752 seats to be hard, but that does seem to be a favourite complaint here.
