Since I posted, AA has dropped the price from $554 to $493 and the US fare has gone up to $335 (for flights at similar time frame).
Meanwhile, I have been using 24-hour hold to reserve 2 seats at $493 per person in case the price goes skyrocketed.

I'll be heading out to Paris for two months tomorrow and decided to check the holiday fares from Kayak for one last time. I almost couldn't believe my eyes. The AA discounted Y fares has been dropped to $315 (DFW - PHL, 25/12/13 - 1/1/14). I checked at 5pm (PST) this afternoon and it still showed $493.
We prefer AA over US because the connecting inbound and outbound flights will be on AA and also because we could utilise the lounge and have higher baggage allowance.
Wow, being patience is actually paid off. The price could get lower, but I'm happy with $315 (actually lower than that of US Air). Now I'll stop checking the price
