There was one year there was a little known promotion that if you committed to $30 per month for a year ($360), you could get unlimited airphone use.
After VZW took it over there was also a $10/month+$0.10/minute option. I used that for several weeks to be able to call in to a conference call while en route AUS-EWR and also get home for dinner rather than at 10pm. Boss was happy to pay the ~$5/week extra and I was very happy to be home earlier.
