I would probably wait OP if you really wanted to fly AA and flights looks empty.
Since I posted, AA has dropped the price from $554 to $493 and the US fare has gone up to $335 (for flights at similar time frame).
Meanwhile, I have been using 24-hour hold to reserve 2 seats at $493 per person in case the price goes skyrocketed.
