The checked bag fee really is not an issue here, since they check bags at the gate for free anyway. Hey, my roll aboard may not quite fit in the gate sizer, but it stows nicely in the overhead of every DL mainline aircraft and any RJ not built in Canada.

It is not so much of a size issue as a numbers issue. I do see people with more than one bag that needs to go in the bin.
