In fact, I've seen two international arrivals--one when I didn't have GE but this made me decide to apply long before it came to airports I usually use, and the other after I had GE when I bypassed a couple hours of standing in line that day--when I gladly would have paid $100 to use GE just one time.
In my case for both Canada and USA faster customs clearance, plus priority security in the US makes the $50 for NEXUS worth it for me.
(similar case for my APEC card, so I don't have to get visas in certain countries and have fast immigration around the region.)
