Can use some help with my Songkran itinerary. The gf and I will be using air/hotel points throughout the trip and want to experience a bit of Songkran festivities while in Bangkok. We want to be able to see the sites during this time and not get doused with water everywhere we go. I booked a hotel in BKK leading up to 1st day of Songkran holiday and plan to leave the city that night by taking a train to Chiang Mai, and fly to Krabi 3 days later.

On further thought, do you think its better to fly from BKK to Krabi first to wait out the craziness of Songkran in Chiang Mai, then fly to Chiang Mai later on that week. One of the downsides is that we would be backtracking from south to north, when our next destination is Kuala Lumpur. Our BKK hotel dates are set due to the holiday. We plan to fly CX from LAX-BKK, and HKG-LAX. Thanks!
