HI Atrium Singapore

I recently stayed at HI Atrium Singapore and had a quite disappointing stay. I have stayed in this hotel multiple times before, but not during the last 2 years. I've had some issues on my earlier stays too and granted there were some this time too. So though sharing the details of my stay here at FT if this helps someone when choosing a hotel in SG.

Booking
Tried to book an executive suite with the IHG Android mobile app, which didn't let me complete my booking. Tried to book online, same thing happened, wasn't able to to complete the booking which at least for me seemed like an obvious technical issue which have never happened to me before.

Made a call to the hotel, explained the situation and asked if they can secure me the booking. Was told that price will be approximately 100sgd/night+tax more if the booking is made through the phone. After requesting to talk with a on-duty manager, the price was dropped to "just" 30sgd more than booking online. I also inquired if they have larger suites and if it's possible to upgrade at check-in? Was told that certainly it is possible but there will be a cost of approximately 90-100sgd for doing so.

Check-in
During the check-in I was asked If I would like to pay an extra 40sgd (or 45, can't remember) to have breakfast, lounge access and internet included in my room. At this point I asked what is the difference with executive suite and standard suite. No answers given. When I asked about the upgrade possibilities was now told that the executive suite is already their best room (i.e. all their suites are the same size).
No welcome drink coupon were given, no welcome fruits no plat status recognition of any kind. Actually as I understand nowadays the free wifi is granted for all platinum members? Well, not in this hotel :-)

Room
My suite was on the 15th floor and still with the old furniture (from late 80's I assume) except flat TV's and some updates in the bathroom and toilet during last 10-15 years. I give a plus for the non-rectangular shape of the room but otherwise not really today's level. Sort of Japanese style room, with sliding doors and low doorframes. Not one single free electrical socket to be found.

Service
Room service for food and ice worked well - no complains there.
Called front desk and requested an electrical extension cord (Needed to unplug TV, water kettle or minibar to use it). 10 minutes later housekeeping calls and asks what exactly I'm in need of again.

As for positives, the hotel has a decent size pool (which was under maintenance during my stay) and is relatively low priced as for Singapore standards. Service is somehow lacking, while I admit some of their staff members are doing a decent job.
