Had same issue with bag pickup at SFO yesterday (though no staff around). The bigger issue I have is a guy there who loads the planes using one hand, toppling bags from top of pile in cart to bottom, then having them drop onto the belt to load onto plane (except when he misses, in which case some bags [including mine] drop onto the concrete tarmac]). Ended up with a broken wheel, but didn't notice until after I left airport (though I arrived in Frankfurt and had a train to catch).
Yeah, I'd videotape that. Yesterday I noticed ground crew at LAX kicking (literally) a cardboard box towards the baggage loading belt of another plane. Didn't have the vantage point to see if it was loaded onto a plane and of course don't know if that was a customer's box or AA's.
I was on the wrong side of the plane so didn't take a video (had also shut off my phone already).
