They also let me check in both my car seat and my stroller (rules say you can only check in one item). But again, I can't be sure they would let me do it again. It helped that I had a tiny 4 week old baby in a carrier. One thing we've never had an issue with is golf bags as sporting equipment as an extra bag (3rd bag) without charge. We've done it for the kids as well.
I have not had issues with checking a car seat and stroller when traveling with our kids. At one time I think we actually check two car seats in with a stroller. Can't recall if that was a J ticket with the kids having their own tickets as well.
