I don't think that the tickets would be cheap, but didn't expect AA ($554 for Y) to be twice as much as US/UA ($228 - 270). Even Delta is at least a hundred dollars cheaper.

I went ahead and booked the tickets (but holding the reservation for 24h) yesterday. When I was choosing my seats, the whole planes (MD-80) for both trips were wide open except for a handful of aisles blocked. This prompted me to think that perhaps I was a bit early to purchase the tickets.

Should I wait for another month? What are you guys' takes on this?

Thanks.

To be honest, I would book on US for $228 RT and just credit the miles to UA, since you list UA in your profile. The price difference wouldn't be worth it to me.

It does appear that AA has blocked off all sAAver seats and lower fare inventory for the month of Dec from DFW-PHL.
