But I still wouldn't do a 1:10 connection on the return to the US, that doesn't leave much cushion. I wouldn't even like that at AMS, which is less complicated and I know pretty well.
It's doable in AMS, and in fact I've done it, but it's not pleasant. Lines for passport control can be long.
In CDG, there's much more risk of missing signs and getting lost, adding to the time needed to get to the departure gate. I also think of CDG as being more random compared to AMS, so that it's more likely that your flight will be late or will be delayed getting to its gate, it's more likely that you'll see long lines, etc.
