Thanks everyone!
Sounds like almost everyone prefers the direct flight in this case.

I assume you are using points?
Personally, I would take the stop and look for LH F space once you are t-14 days... That way it's an even exchange on the ticket points wise.
Yeah, the IAD-IAH leg may open up in business. But there is no guarantee for that, but then on the other hand the UA Global First availability will probably disappear very likely. And I'd guess I could fairly easily waitlist the business class (would the ticket have priority over CPUs?).
The ticket is not for myself. Will I be able to access the UA extended saver award fare classes for elites (I'm 1K) even if the ticket is not for myself?
I am using United miles.
I have personally actually never flown UA Global First, so I have no idea how much of a worse connection it is worth. What I'm reading is that the seat is decent but the service nothing special.
Ok, I will look for LH new or old F availability T-14, but that's no guarantee. Having said that, is it T-14 6pm EST or T-15 6pm EST? It is my understanding that united.com only shows availability T-14, but that LH F seats may really be bookable already T-15 using UA miles.
By the way, do they have a UA Global First lounge in IAD that would be accessible with this ticket?
