If you have more than one pax on the same award PNR, can one person move up front if the inventory allows or must there be sufficient inventory for all pax on the PNR move up to the premium cabin?
One person can move up, but you will have to pro-actively have AA divide the record. You absolutely cannot have 2 passengers on the same PNR in different booking/travel classes (system limitation).
Q2: For either one pax on one award or the situation in my above scenario: Does this all change if part of the award without premium cabin availability is a OW partner award?
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking here, but if it's a partner award, you will have to wait for the Z (or U) inventory to be released. Generally, you cannot stand by for a higher class of service than what you're booked in, because unless the ticket is re-issued in the higher class, the operating airline won't be compensated appropriately. That said, I did have luck once standing by for F on CX JFK-YVR -- a nice ticketing agent at the airport called AAdvantage to verify that it was an F award and then somehow got CX to seat us in F. I don't know if they did it "properly" because we earned AAdvantage miles as if it were a paid ticket.
But this is the exception more than the rule.
