Agreed. It's not ideal, but if dl.com doesn't show the correct seat, then who cares if you can see it at checkmytrip.

I would try selecting your seats at airfrance.us (if the origination point of your itinerary is in the US) even for the KL leg. That's worked for me in the past, even when DL coded.
