For this year end holiday period, I have found it cheaper to redeem an award ticket for 12.5k-20k miles from the US to Europe and then fly on a regular paid economy class ticket from Europe to the US to EZE and back to the US and perhaps back to Europe ... with overnights at the US POEs. I used Citibank card Thankyou points to book the regular paid EU-US-EZE-US-EU ticket.

I will be earning more miles than I used, and benefit from running down my excessive TYP balance and saving myself money from trips I would be having to take anyway.

Using a straight out mileage ticket (at other than double the usual miles price) from the US to EZE at the relevant time of the year gravitates usually toward being extraordinarily difficult.
