You're closer to the principals than I am so I'm sure you're right. P'n'P's blurb at http://www.picknpay.co.za/picknpay/content/en/avios makes it clear that customers should link their smart saver card to either the Avios Travel Rewards Programme or the British Airways Executive Club.

Good to have the choice even if it appears to perpetuate the Avios v Avios situation we have in Europe with different earning and redemption partners.
