Hello All, i am hoping you can help myself and my partner with a bit of an issue we are having.

We are both quite nervous flyers and are most concerned about safety or perceptions of safety on the different airlines/aeroplanes.

We have a choice between flying with Virgin Atlantic on their A340-300 or on British Airways on a 747-400 on a flight from London to Vancouver. Normally we would pick BA hands down as we have avios and prefer their services however the price difference between the two is now £200 each and i just don't think it is worth it, my partner disagrees. We have already tried avios reward seats but they are all out so it is a straight fight between virgin for circa £700 rtn or BA for circa £900.

Now that £200 is well worth paying if the 747 will feel significantly safer but if it isn't or won't actually be safer then there is no point. Can you help? We went on an A340-300 with Iberia and it was about the worst flight i have ever been on, was it the plane or Iberia?

Any help would be much appreciated.
