hotels.com price match guarantee... should I trust it?
Hello all,
So I recently booked a 'pay at hotel' rate via hotels.com at 1220 Euro for 4 nights (an absurd price that I'd never want to pay at a hotel). However, I entered a price match guarantee because I found a lower price (668 Euro) at Olotels.com. I have no experience with Olotels.com and their website doesn't describe the hotel cancellation policy, so I figured better to book with a large company I've used many times in the past and just have them match the price.
However, after completing the price match form, I received an email stating that if they matched the price (they're still checking), I am to pay the hotel the originally booked price of 1220 Euro and then they will refund me the difference after I've stayed. That puts me at risk for 552 Euro (a tidy sum) and is making me nervous. Assuming they come back with an accepted price match, do you think
1- I should trust them to refund this amount?
2- cancel the reservation and take my chances with Olotels.com?
3- Or find an alternate hotel?
Thanks!
