To make this simple & presuming that OP booked a non-changeable/refundable ticket:
1. OP is booked CLT-NYC-CLT.
2. He wants to now fly OHIO-NYC-CLT.
3. That is a change.
4. It is subject to a $200 fee to be paid when he purchases his new ticket (which is effectively now).
5. Thus, if his existing ticket cost $X, he will receive a credit for $X when he cancels.
6. His new ticket will cost whatever #2 costs, less $X, plus $200.
Depending on what OP paid for his existing ticket, it may be cheaper or close to, to forget the existing ticket and buy a new one.
