Again, the arrivals lounge closes at 1400 and our friend arrives at 1805. And I think breakfast closes a bit before the arrivals lounge too.

There is an airside shuttle bus, but its departure point is located in such a place that you can normally only get it if you're arriving. On the other hand, if you are in T5 departures and ride the T5 transit train to the last stop and all the way back, you will be disgorged into the arrivals flow and be able to take the bus from there. In this scenario it would be nice of you to tell BA you're offloading yourself from the MAN flight so that you do not delay it.
The more official way of getting back landside in this scenario is to speak to the BA customer services desk near the escalator to the shuttle and get escorted out, but this can apparently only happen once per hour.
The morals of buying a refundable flight that you are never going to use, in order to get lounge access have been discussed at great length before and I am hoping they will not be again.
