For the others, generally they will only provide accomodation if there is no connection available under x hours, and/or the connecting flights do not include shorthaul flights. So you cannot usually just choose a longer layover to be eligible if there is a shorter option available.

Qatar:
•There is no connection of less than 8 hours available.
•The booking does not include flights to or from Abu Dhabi (AUH), Bahrain (BAH), Dubai (DXB), Kuwait (KWI), and Muscat (MCT).

Malaysia (has various offers from time to time):
•Two passengers travelling together with Malaysia Airlines from UK/Ireland to Southeast Asia, North Asia, Australia or New Zealand

Emirates:
•Economy Class passengers with a connection time until the first available flight of more than eight hours and less than 24 hours upon arrival in Dubai, and who have qualifying tickets.

Etihad:
•Must book minimum two night, only the first night is free.

Turkish:
•Passengers have right to have free hotel accomodation only when there is more than 10 hours (7 or more hours for business class passengers) between two international connecting flights due to Turkish Airlines’ schedule structure for maximum 2 nights.

U don't hv 2 believe what I posted above ,
All that airlines they provided me a free hotel at least once .. my last flight on Biman was from KUL To RUH with transit 13 hours and before that on Royal Brunei from JED to KUL both of them provided me free accomodation with meals . On Qatar and Turkish also same my flights was from ARN to RUH with transit around 9 hours on Qatar and 13 on Turkish all of them they provided me accomodation .

For ur info some airlines if u call them , ask them or check their site about do they provide a accomodation u'll not find anything or they will say no that's happened with me twice , Especially on Biman just by the time I reached DAC
I went to the transit area then they gave me two options 1st staying in that area 2nd staying in hotel for free . so I chose 2 go 2 the hotel and I paid $21 for visa costs only .
