No - if you don't fly the first leg they will cancel out your return leg (even if you call them and tell them you aren't taking the first leg). They aren't going to give you a voucher for the first leg (they will charge you a change fee and refare the ticket as a one way). You could get a credit for the amount of your reservation if you cancel the entire itinerary. If that credit is more than the change fee (which you have to pay with new money when you want to use that credit) then it would be worthwhile to use that credit towards booking your new itinerary.
Bottom line - the only way to do what you want to do is to call and cancel / change your original ticket to Ohio - NY - CLT (which will result in having to pay the change fee plus any fare difference).
