Why would the OP risk keeping an illegal connection? Especially when missing the flight may delay the trip by a full day? AFAIK if DL discovers the problem (assuming it's a single ticket--if not, then attempting this is even more foolish), they could rebook you onto a flight of their choice or at best you will have fewer options later than you do now.

Since OP must change terminals at LAX and get through TSA security, making this connection would be a miracle IMO assuming that the international flight departs on time.
