This makes sense if the client is dirty and is spying--especially with the incentive to use it. Mix the spy data in with what you are uploading.
Tencent is the largest internet company in China with a market cap of around a hundred billion US$. They have a very strong presence in Asia with many established products so I wouldn't worry too much about spying or the safety of your data if you only use the service to store photos, videos, music...
