Few weeks ago, at YYZ guy was adamant I couldn't have Infiniti on free rental day, told him I was just renting it (premium with free day) to get Sushi and I'd be back in 3 or 4 hours, and he let me have it. Same thing in Houston, used free day (premium again) to get some BBQ during long layover, and they let me have the Infiniti once told that I only needed the car for 3 or 4 hours
I guess it may be possible to book a four hour rental, pick up a sweet ride, and then extend it to a week long rental

That's pretty much my routine. I book a luxury one day free day rental, pick the nicest car they have or use it as leverage to get a nice hybrid, then drop the following day at the in-town location and open a new contract for a week or two with a midsize rate sans airport taxes, saving a bundle.
I schedule the rentals to drop the car back at the airport location on my departure so they keep it in their inventory, which I think is the fair and appropriate thing to do. I have a good enough rapport with the local office that they don't mind renewing my luxury or hybrid (there is one location that will try and keep it and put me out in a midsize clunker, but I don't rent there anymore - Boca Raton - nasty, nasty location) when I explain it should go back to the airport at the end of the contract.
As a former owner of an Infiniti FX35, I'd rather rent a bicycle than drive another Infiniti, but that's just me
