Born and raised in Toronto, I always wondered what kind of luxury hotel this was while growing up - however, after finally staying here this weekend, I was thoroughly disappointed. The room quality was barely above a Holiday Inn, if that.

1. Service. Overall, the service was excellent. There is a HUGE Plat/Gold check-in area, although the desk wasn't staffed, the agent just about bodychecked the regular line person who approached the desk as she swooped in to grab me forward. She mentioned my Platinum status and thanked me for it so many times, it was about 30% of her entire check-in presentation. She apologized profusely for not having a suite upgrade or a club floor room, but promised my SPG floor room would be an excellent option.

I didn't find a Green Choice hang tag in the room, but when I called down later to ask about it, the agent setup my account for Green Choice and automatically added the points right then and there.

Water was replenished in the room upon request by calling housekeeping.

2. Club Lounge - the size and view are probably second to the Sheraton Waikiki, but the food offerings were pretty lazy. They had the space and infrastructure to offer some hot dishes, but the offerings were very plain, simple, continental and never changed each morning. After seeing some of the guests with kids lay waste to the place with food and garbage flung everywhere, the staff appeared a little overwhelmed keeping up with the clean-up process.

3. Room - wow, and not in a good way. I've seen nicer Holiday Inns, seriously. The room was old, tired, dark and dingy. Windows were absolutely filthy as if they've never been washed. The bathroom was a sufficient size, although counter space was lacking. As mentioned upthread, once you get a message, the indicator never stops flashing. Unfortunately there was a big event at city hall on the weekend and the noise level pounding into our 30th floor room preventing rest of any kind, and the event was never disclosed to us at check-in - premium guests should have been assigned to south facing rooms.

4. Common areas - very crowded, but still sufficient space to spread out. I noticed some groups doing 'picnics' in the lobby with food cartons and food strewn about, and the hotel should have sent these people to their rooms (if guests) or tossed them out (if not guests) as they made a big mess in the lobby area.

5. Parking - no question - park under city hall and save a bundle, and the hotel is connected to the lot underground. Be aware that if you park before midnight and don't exit by 7am, you are paying $12 overnight, not $6 as you've basically paid for 2 days, not 1. The hotel entrance-way can be somewhat chaotic and the valet staff seem unable to control the traffic effectively or even communicate clearly in English.
