In many cities in the PRC, check-in dsks are flight specific, and only open for 1-2 hours before flight time.

May I suggest you request a late check-out from your hotel? You will be more than likely told no the 1st time, but if you ask for a supervisor at the front desk (perhaps at check-in), you may get it.

OBTW-remember to try to phrase your request in such a way that the 1st answer will not be NO! Example-We have a late flight out on Wednesday night. Most of the hotels we stay at have the ability to extend us to 4pm. Can you tell me what the late check-out policy is for your hotel?
