2. Transfer UR points to my folk's United account, book award travel for them using their account (yes, I do manage their account).

The other thing to note is that my folks are not US residents, so they won't be signing up for CC offers. On the other hand, I am, so if there are CC offers that makes it easier to redeem flights, it may be beneficial to use option 1. Although, at this moment, I am unaware of any united CCs that give perks for award booking (e.g. reduced mileage, higher availability, etc...) - please correct me if I am wrong!!!

My only reservation about using option 1, is what happens when something goes wrong, e.g. stuff did not get ticketed, "system error", etc... I figure it might be easier to troubleshoot with the airline if they had booked the award travel using their own account instead of mine. I've also heard stories about how some airlines need the original CC to be presented at the time of flight, does anyone still practice this archaic thing?
Do you have any status on UA? If so and you book the awards your status carries over to your folks. At least for now it does.
