That it is due to cessation of service of a route/service , doesn not mean that it is not a cancellation as far as it relates to a specific flight instance.
Then it is the service termination, not cancellation. Cancellation is temporary, termination is definite.
Since the metal is still flying, the flight is not cancelled. What changed is the codeshare was terminated. A virtual flight can only be cancelled if the operating carrier cancelled the flight. BA can only zero the codeshare flight out in the system to prevent booking. If BA no longer offer the codeshare option, the flight is not cancelled, but terminated (as same as the flight number now is terminated).
Cancellation and termination are very different matter.
