No it's not. When a flight is cancelled, it's impossible to fly on it. When a codeshare is cancelled, somebody's made a commercial decision to suit their financial interests (as the OP said, AA are still selling tickets for the flight). I don't see why customers who've booked in good faith should have to deal with the fallout from that.
