Tell BA to just rebook you on the AA flight number. I am sure it is to be allowed under their partnership rules, and good availability on the ORD-MSY flights.

If they do not agree, you can ask to reroute LHR-DFW or LHR-MIA and then MSY.

Wonder if the problem is created because the flight is now by Republic and no codeshare agreement on those flights yet?
