This was my first proper visit to Rome (rather than passing through to reach elsewhere in Italy), and with only a couple of days to explore I stuck to what I imagine is a pretty standard tourist checklist. So no niche attractions or secret restaurant suggestions here!
A further complication was the weather... Although there were patches that lived up to my expectations for Italy in almost-June, these were interspersed with sudden downpours:
Thanks to deep-seated Britishness (well, that and a BBC forecast for storms) I had wet-weather gear with me, but this still didn't sit well with my prefered approach to exploring a city, which is to roam around on foot admiring the architecture.
