That's right; I noticed that! So validation is not necessary in Frankfurt since one cannot buy a ticket in advance. I never validated my ticket to FRA from Hauptwache.

That's a shame because buying tickets in advance is such a convenience. It's simple validating one's ticket that day; nothing confusing about it. At least BVG hasn't followed in that direction.
