The meal was eastern Mediterranean influenced, which is why it was listed as 'Oriental'. It seems that OP now understands why it was termed that, even if he thinks that the English equivalent should have been used. He questioned why it was called 'oriental' back on page 2 of the thread.

OP, perhaps you think that 'Middle Eastern' would be more appropriate, in English? Some things just don't translate well, as 'near east' is a relative term based on the speaker's origin.
