It sounds like the OP was perfectly healthy when they bought the tickets and it cropped up after the fact. Not saying they should or shouldn't have bought the insurance, that is a personal choice. My tickets are for work and they won't pay for the insurance and the tickets are for work so I won't pay for the insurance out of my pocket but you can sure bet I would try and save my company money if something happened medically and I couldn't use the tickets.
