It's not so much about your insurance company refusing to pay, it's:

1) The deductible -- if your auto insurance covers rentals, it's generally under your collision section

2) The fact that a claim with your auto policy will raise your rates for the next several years. In theory, (caution: I haven't verified this), with a primary rental coverage credit card you wouldn't have to involve or file a claim with your insurance company at all.

Note that if you get into an accident with another vehicle, you're likely to have to involve your insurance company anyway, especially if at-fault, as the other vehicle/peoples' damage would be covered by your liability insurance. I don't believe most credit cards (including this one) offer that coverage.
