Those very three things sound like the exact kind of things my Swedish relatives have experienced in Manhattan. Groped on the 6. Stalked by guys when leaving a nightclub and trying to get a cab back to my place. Subjected to being the object of a man masturbating in Central Park. Welcome to summer in a city that is considered pretty safe by Americans.

This summer one American woman was gang-raped (if that is the appropriate word for rapes perpetrated by 2 or more people at or around the same time) at an Israeli hotel and another American woman was raped in an Israeli store. Is anyone claiming this makes Israel an extremely dangerous place for women and the country should thus be avoided by female tourists? I would hope not.

You can read her own account in CNN iReport: India: the Story You Never Wanted to Hear
I read that, thanks. Hopefully her mental health will be stronger going forward. Did she say what she did during her semester off?
