I logged into LHRcollection (Chase special hotel site) to check some hotels today as I am a new customer and never used the site before. First I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms that came back included full breakfast but also that in this particular hotel there was a $100 (1 time per stay) credit (very reminiscent of the FHR on the AMEX side). However once I then plugged the same stay information into places like Hotels.com and even Hyatt's (was a Park Hyatt property) own website saw cheaper rates (tough to see due to different places using different room names).

My questions therefore are 1) are most of these sites (LHR, FHR, etc) this way where you ultimately pay more albeit if you play the game you can maximize the amenity ? and 2) If you do find the room cheaper elsewhere will AMEX, Chase etc beat that price ?
