I cringe to think that anyone redeems miles for less than 1 CPM. If you want to use miles without losing opportunities to earn MQMs for yourself, I have a few suggestions:

1) PWM upgrades at time of purchase (see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...ess-class.html)
2) Award travel for friends or family members (any of whom would be happy to reimburse you >1 CPM if cheaper than revenue ticket)
