I wouldn't even bother with NEX. Take the the Underground to Victoria or St Pancras then train to LGW. It won't be any slower (M25 traffic) and it's no more expensive. You'll at least have the flexibility. Recommend Southern Trains or First Cap Connect services rather than Gatwick Express - cheaper and only about 5 mins time diff.
