I have had some luck in years past, but I was at the mercy of the hotel property, and rightfully so. I did not expect to get it waived, but so far have been able to do it every time. Typically it is because I have a reservation for the future, or better yet, have them make the corrected reservation for me.

Bottom line, make the call, and be happy if they reverse it for you, and accept that it was your mistake if they don't.
