This phone is LTE/CDMA only, so it won't work at all on your trip unless you are on WiFi. Unlocking it won't help, because it isn't a global phone.

Your best bet is to either purchase something locally, or get yourself a global phone before your trip. A phone like the Galaxy S4 will work fine - but you need to decide whether it is worth the investment.
