Hertz at some locations have implemented Hertz Gold Aisle which allows you to stick with your original assigned car or simply pick up another car available (similar to National).

I think all the agencies which have merged with lesser brands all have pro/cons but Hertz does appear to offer best service nationwide and alongside Avis closest location to airport.
