I can't spend too much time in the sun, so I find a shady spot or an umbrella whenever I can. Dh and I are both readers and can spend hours out there in the shade reading. Our last couple of beach vacations were spent on dog-friendly beaches because we found new lounge buddies. The hounds tend to be shade hogs, but two umbrellas can cover the four of us well enough. They dig shallow nest-holes in the sand and snooze for hours while we read. One of the beaches had a fair crab population, and one evening when the crowd died down and the crabs started popping out of the sand, I discovered it's not a good idea to hook the leash around my foot. LOL
