This morning there was an update to the Bahn Navigator phone app. The ticket app has now been integrated into the main app, so a separate ticket app is no longer necessary.

The app also offers notifications in case of train delays (it is an option in the settings) and there is a special tab to look for sparpreisen (discounted prices). These tickets can then be booked directly within the app and the tickets downloaded to your phone.

All or most of this functionality is only available if you have an account with the railroad. Simply go to bahn.de, choose your location and sign up for an account. For those with non-chip/pin credit cards, it will probably no longer be a problem to buy or pick up tickets.
